Privacy-focused individuals who want a self-hosted password vault that also routes site-specific email aliases through a built-in SMTP server, so each account gets a unique inbox with no third-party alias service required.
You need a mature team-sharing or family vault, hardware key (FIDO2/WebAuthn) support, or IMAP access to read alias-received emails outside the AliasVault app. Those features are on the roadmap but not yet shipped.
Single-maintainer project: lanedirt accounts for ~95% of commits (4,881 of ~5,100 total as of 2026-08-03). Active and responsive, but real bus-factor risk for a tool that holds your passwords and your email aliases. No independent security audit has been published. The project is in public beta (0.x versioning); only the latest minor release is supported for security fixes.
