Plane is an open source alternative to Linear, Jira, Asana, and ClickUp. Open-source project management to track issues, sprints, and roadmaps. A self-hostable alternative to Jira, Linear, and Asana with Docker and Plane Cloud. Use it if

Teams that want a self-hostable project management and issue tracking tool positioned as an alternative to Jira and Linear, with work items, cycles, modules, and views, plus a managed Plane Cloud option.

Skip it if

You need deep Atlassian ecosystem integration; self-hosting Plane means operating your own Postgres, Redis, and Docker or Kubernetes stack, and it does not match Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket cross-product integration.

Watch out

Plane is AGPL-3.0 licensed, which has raised questions about plugin and derivative-work licensing among HN commenters. Self-hosting requires managing infrastructure, and the instance does not yet ship a GitLab importer or integration.

"so good to see this here. you haven't done justice to how simple Plane is to get started. tools like Jira and others almost mandate tribal knowledge before seeing value. Plane is an example of good first principles thinking and progressive learning on the job. wish you all the success on your journey."

"I prefer to use Plane as my issue management tool indefinitely, as its user interface is visually appealing and the user experience is exceptionally intuitive. Keep up the great work!"
