Use it if

Small teams and cost-sensitive projects that want a simple, self-hostable error tracking and uptime monitoring alternative to Sentry, compatible with Sentry SDKs, with Docker self-hosting and a managed GlitchTip Cloud option on app.glitchtip.com.

Skip it if

You need full Sentry feature parity for issue grouping, filtering, and labeling. Community users report GlitchTip's UI is basic and falls short for advanced debugging workflows that Sentry handles.

Watch out

Self-hosting requires PostgreSQL 14+, an optional Valkey or Redis 7+ instance, and a reverse proxy such as nginx for SSL. A Helm chart is available for Kubernetes. The code is on GitLab at gitlab.com/glitchtip, which the GitHub mirror does not reflect.

Some quotes here endorse the approach rather than report first-hand use, or report a problem. We label those.

"I saw the headline and wanted to make sure someone mentioned GlitchTip. It doesn't have all of the functionality of Sentry but has all of the functionality I need. We have been running it in production for a year with no problems. Given our small user base (<1000 users), Sentry did not make sense."

"I don't believe it's a fork, but https://gitlab.com/glitchtip/glitchtip-backend is MIT and aims to be the actual Open Source replacement for Sentry..."
